Category: Reason behind the Website

Origins of Khan Academy

I am hoping that mostly all of us know about Khan Academy. It is one of most successful source of virtual teaching an learning. Right now, over millions of students or even grown up adults are part of this amazing website that educated people in a very interactive way. Real life learning is definitively awesome, but some advantages that virtual learning has over real life learning is that:

– You can go on your own pace

– You don’t have to feel embargoes of asking the same question again and again. Just rewind the video.

– You don’t have to sit there and watch it a specific time. It’s at your own will, if your responsible and interested enough.

– If you don’t completely understand from the virtual source, you always have the real life learning to refer back to with some extra knowledge.

Khan Academy is that very virtual learning course. It in particular is very entertaining and lively compared to other virtual educational videos, simply because the voice of the tutor is always very enthusiastic and also because he tries to keep the humor alive in the video too.

Khan Academy began when one person, Salman Khan, tried to help his cousins in Maths or just for their sake made a video about it and uploaded it n YouTube. The feedback he received was amazing. He got letters from people, enthusiastic and thanking YouTube comments, people actually started watching his videos for their preparations, etc. From there he got an idea of Khan Academy and started this amazing virtual source  of education.

In this video Eli Periser is informing all of us about how social and news websites like Google, or Facebook, or Yahoo News use algorithmic values and calculations to self determine what does the person looking at the screen actually want to see. They would cancel out any adds, or web links, or notifications which they presume is least opened by the user, hence just an unnecessary piece in their research and doesn’t hold any value when in fact that very page or link might carry a significant purpose to the user. It might just be that the user has not been able to use that piece of information within the time period the website thought that person doesn’t really want the page at all.

Eli Periser also talks about how these actions of the websites are restricting people all around the world from the knowledge they should have about the world. Internet was invented for the social communication, or connectivity of the wold. Now, however, that very reason is at risk as internet now is only giving us the information or a source that we want but not what we need. This would just end up making people around the world just anonymous about what’s happening around them.

This website can not only be used in Advanced Technology class as a project, but also in any other of our classes for sending, receiving, and storing information in a secure manner. Nowadays technology is a very essential part of our education. In many of classes; Global Issues, World Lit, even Pre calculus sometimes use internet and blogging websites for communication and leaning. having a website of you own will help you post you work our teacher’s websites containing our work with much more ease. It will help us to store our information in a very easy-to-get manner in case we forget it at home. Having a website of your own, isn’t just eye catching in college transcripts but is also very useful in you school life.

Representing Me

I think this image represents me, only because of it’s humorous reasons(I don’t drive). I can be funny at times, and this image brings out a smile or a laugh on the face of the person who is looking at it. Also the person who created this image, surely loves computers and that is why connects the situation of falling down a cliff, to a computer keyboard command. I also love computers, and I try to relate them to as many things as I can. That is why I decided to post this image.

This isn’t the Matrix kid!

Reflection 2

According to me I have been using my time in an “OK” manner. I created the website, explored the different techniques of customization in it, created categories and sub categories in it, and posted a lot of my posts on the website. Looking at those things I felt a bit proud of myself, however, now when I recall that class period, I realize that spent somewhat of my time socializing, and talking with my friends. I was not only distracting myself, but was distracting other people from their work. I could have done so much more in the time that I spent chatting with people next to me. This makes me feel not that good. Overall I think I would grade my website 2.8, as I have not followed proper instructions in some of my posts.

Advanced Technology has been a very interesting class for me so far, and I am sure will continue to be for the rest of the year. I have been thinking of making a website for my use but just couldn’t find a way to do so, first official day in Advanced technology, and I had my own website. I am learning a lot of stuff that I had no idea I’d be learning, and the things that  I have been craving to learn for a long time. I learned a lot about general technological improvement through class discussion, and TED videos.

Favorite Music Video

This is not an official music video, but it is on i-Tunes if someone is interested. It is a parody “revenge” video that a very renowned channel of YouTube made in the year 2010. As the title implies, it is a Pokemon theme song parody, including a revenge in it, as their previous parody video was removed due to copyright reasons. I like this video mainly because I like Pokemon, and also because I find it hilarious.

Advanced Technology: Question/Answers

1. What is Advanced Technology?

Advanced Technology is the study of technological programs in depth and in an improved manner.

2. What are the basic 21st century skills that you think a student should be taught in schools?

The 21st century’s learning skills that I feel should be taught in schools and in this class is about motion graphics. As it is about what I feel, I think that portions of motion graphics such as: visual affect, 3D modelling, and some other things like team work, creativity, and communication between students. According to various articles on motion graphics, people interested in this career should have a lot of practice before getting into the career. Things like team work, and communication are very essential nowadays in any career line you pick. No tasks are accomplished solo, you always work with a big or small team. To work well among people, you need to know how to do team work, and how to communicate between people. This especially is very important for a career in visual effects. I personally have my own YouTube channel that demonstrates my interest in motion graphics. I think it would be a really good subject to tech in school as it will improve the student’s interest in visual effects.

To improve in technology and learn something really new, to create something useful or something common that I have just been using but never created it.

I have never taken any technology courses officially. However, since 8th grade I have been self tutoring myself in the field of motion graphics by using the websites mentioned in answers 2.

6. Why did you choose this elective class?

I am passionate about technology and I wanted to learn about it more and more in depth. I want to create something in it

The Sixth Sense is a revolutionary invention done by Pranan Mistry. He made a device that “brings you digital life to the real life”. It allows you interact with digital appliances using real life body movements. I think this is a very geniously thought because, as Pranav also said in his video, it can be great tool for physically unstable people. They can use it as a system of communication. Also it is also a very attractive technology.

PART 1

Part 2

My target audience is mostly upcoming animators. As I want them to have a source for their training in visual effects. There are many other websites out there, especially YouTube, but I would still like to contribute to that and make a website that would help the animators. Another target audience of mine that matters a lot too is the people who I would talk to when I apply to my college or for a job. Having a useful website with tons of motion graphics filled into it should definitely, from my point of view be a plus point for either of those two. It would represent a solid presentation of my skills.
